Port Fairy Jazz Festival Feb 2022 – come along!

Jazz Musicians from across South Eastern Australia are busting to share their talents in 100 plus bands performing at Port Fairy in February 2022!

Feb 11th – 13th

Music ranges from New Orleans style and classic trad groups, through to swing bands big and small, to ensembles of varying styles and instrumentation representing more recently minted jazz repertoire such as post-bop and contemporary. So long as it includes some improvisation, it is considered jazz! A number of groups involve vocalists who help to humanise the music for the uninitiated. No matter what style of jazz you identify with, or whether you identify with it at all, everyone can find music to suit their taste here. It’s also an ideal event to expand your jazz repertoire.

10 of Port Fairy’s historic buildings are converted into venues to accommodate concerts that run almost continuously throughout the weekend from Friday evening through to late Sunday afternoon. Although the popular Saturday morning street parade and mass playing on Fiddler’s Green has been suspended by due to restrictions, the Sunday morning gospel service in St John’s church with music by the popular band “Shirazz” will again be a feature of the program.

In addition to the music, there are the magnificent food and coffee houses of the town and of course the superb beaches to relax at.

A repeat highlight of past festivals, the Sunday morning Gospel Service, will again be supported by Matt Dixon’s Shirazz Jazz Band, a lockout event.

The 2022 festival features include:

Tributes to Don Burrows and George Washingmachine, Great Women in Jazz (Sophisticated Ladies), Ade Monsbourgh and to Crooners.

Other features include:

Open Mic sessions, Jazz Art display, Music Technology Forum and a Drum Workshop.

In addition to the 10 venues to choose from at any one time, there are the Port Fairy experiences of great retail therapy, getting sand between your toes, sumptuous food and lots more.

Tickets are available at Weekend and day tickets also available at the Jazz Office from Thursday 10th February St. John’s Church Hall, at the top end of Barclay Street, Port Fairy.
