About
Nature’s Way Eco Sanctuary is situated on six organic acres in Rosebrook, South West Victoria. The award-winning property boasts a magnificent off-grid straw bale, eco-friendly, fully self-sustaining house and gardens.
The inspirational house took the owner/builders five years and 746 bales to complete.
Self-Sufficient practices include raised bed vegetable gardens, an orchard irrigated by the A&A Worm Farm, free-range chickens (housed in the mobile ‘Chicken Caravan’), bees for pollination and supply of honey.
The power is supplied by a photovoltaic energy system consisting of 52 PV panels, powering the heat pump for hydronic floor heating and charges the electric car.
Energy consumption is minimised in a well-insulated house orientated True North, no windows on the western end, small windows facing east. This allows us all the normal mod cons, such as fridge/freezer, dishwasher, washing machine, television and computers etc, for a very comfortable lifestyle. Each room has cross-ventilation for passive cooling if required in the summer, rainwater is harvested and stored in three tanks.
Eco-friendly products and materials have been used throughout the house.
NWES aims to educate, motivate, inspire and demonstrate a more self- sufficient way of living. Natural and organic principles are used in our daily lives, we provide opportunities to learn skills through our workshops & volunteer programs, gaining confidence to apply positive self-sufficient changes to enhance your lifestyle.
